About
I’m Nigel, a woodworker based in the South West of England. I’ve worked in IT my whole working life, but have had a passion for woodworking ever since I was a child and now do it in my spare time outside of work.
I can’t remember when I developed a passion for woodwork, but there’s two things that come to mind:
-
When I was 13 years old, I created a lidded bowl for my mother at school. To this day, she still has and uses it in her home, 45 years later.
-
My father’s family have a timber yard in West Sussex which I visited many times as a child, it must have had an impact.
It wasn’t until mid thirties when I decided to buy my first lathe and my grandfather gifted me some of his wood turning tools, and I was instantly hooked from that moment.

Over the years, I have made many different things and have dabbled in new techniques such as colouring. Over that period of time, I have always come back to my comfort zone which is heavy, rustic, country pieces which show the true character of the wood. I sometimes use resu or multiput on my pieces but I try to limit this to when those products will enhance the character of the wood.
You’ll find in my gallery here a selection of lamps, bowls, cheese boards, chopping boards, that reflect the work I want to continue to do.
I have also made smaller items that celebrate festivals and have donated various pieces to charity including snowmen, penguins and Christmas trees.
Outside of woodwork, you’ll usually find me on the golf course, cooking up a new recipe, or shopping for even more woodturning tools.
